World Mental Health Day 2013!!

It's October 10 in Australia right now and that means it is world mental health day.

This is an annual initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health.

In Australia this year the campaign is based around the idea of people taking responsibility for their own mental health. The campaign slogan is "mental health begins with me".

It's main objectives are;
- encourage help seeking behaviour
- reduce the stigma associated with mental illness
- Foster connectivity through communities

Now, I do think the premise for this years campaign is somewhat problematic. It seems to take away from the seriousness of mental illness, by presenting it as something which can be controlled by the individual. I think the idea of taking responsibility for your own mental health can be very difficult for people already in the grips of a severe mental illness and can be very triggering for these people.

While I do not believe in taking all responsibility away from the individual, I think a campaign such as this should use less 'blaming' language. Mental illness is not your fault. It is no ones fault. Any efforts to reduce stigmatisation should make this point very clear.

People need to understand than no one chooses mental illness. It is not fun or  glamorous. People with mental illness' are not trying to seek attention. They are ill. They are struggling and because of the stigma, they would much rather keep it hidden until it eats them alive. Literally.

I think the objectives of this campaign are great. Fostering connectivity through communities, encouraging help seeking behaviour and reducing stigma are excellent and much needed goals. However, when combined with the slogan "mental health begins with me" and the notion of encouraging people to take responsibility for their own mental health, I think it has a very damaging message. It suggests that people have control over whether or not they develop a mental illness or whether or not they recover. This is not always the case. Much of the time people are too scared or too damaged to seek help because of the stigma associated with having a mental illness.

More focus needs to be given to reducing the stigma, improving education and awareness and making mental health services more accessible.

As blogger, mental health activist and father to two children suffering severe mental illness, Michael Schofield wrote "we cannot go into their minds and 'fix' them. But we can fix the world so they can live in it." (January First, Prologue)

Until next time :) xx

September Her Fashion Box!

Last week I received my very first Her Fashion Box.

Her Fashion Box is a new Australian subscription service. It costs $39.95 per month and you receive three fashion items and at least four deluxe beauty samples.

You also get the choice of three style profiles to suite your tastes: Classic, Trendy and Feminine.

There is also a smaller version, the boxette which costs $24.95 per month.

The theme of the September box was "clutch on" and I chose the feminine box.

What's inside??

1. Her Fashion Box Glamour Glimmer clutch: Gorgeous little clutch bag covered in navy blue sequins. Dark metal hardware and strap. RRP: $39.95

2. Her Fashion Box Warm Glow ID Bracelet: This was probably my favourite item in this box. It's rose gold. really chunky and very trendy at the moment. RRP: $29.95

3. Her Fashion Box Kiss From a Rose Ring: This is also gorgeous. Rose gold, adorable heart pattern with diamontes. It bends to suit different size fingers. RRP: $24.95

4. Maybelline Colour Show nail varnish in Coral Crush: Great colour for spring. RRP: $5.95

5. Maybelline Colour Show nail varnish in Blue Freeze: a navy blue polish with specks of glitter through it. RRP: $5.95

6. Designer Brands Chubby Lipstick Crayon in Kiss & Tell Red: I actually really love this colour and the formula seems really nice, which is a surprise for DB cosmetics. RRP: $7.99

7. Designer Brands Kohl eye pencil in Black: I've tried these before and actually don't like them very much so that was a little disappointing. But I guess that's kind of the point of these subscription boxes - to try different products etc. RRP: $4.99.

8. C2 Collagen firming & moisturising facial mask: I LOVE facial masks so I'm excited to try this one out soon! RRP: $29 for five masks

9. PureTAN Pure Moisture Coconut Body Creme Body Scrub (12ml sample): This smells really good and I've never heard of this brand before so I'm looking forward to trying this soon as well. It has the perfect scent for summer! RRP: $12.95 (65ml) or $27.95 (125ml)

Overall I was a little disappointed with this box. It was great value because it contained 9 products, which is really good for a subscription service however, I think it would have been better with fewer, better quality products. I'm not a huge fan of Designer Brands, who were the beauty sponsor this month.

I also don't think it was particularly feminine in nature. The navy blue clutch isn't something I would normally choose and wasn't really what I was expecting.

I am going to give it another go though, and I'm hoping it will be better next month!

If you want to sign up to get the October box you can do so here.

Until next time :) xx

This month the box was sponsored by DURI and contained the following AMAZEBALLS spring fashion items!!

2. FaB Aztec print scarf: Gorgeous orange, green, blue, red Aztec print, very trendy and perfect for spring and summer. RRP: $24.95

3. DURI nail enamel in 599 Call Me Maybe: This nail polish is a gorgeous neon peach colour, which will, once again be perfect for spring! RRP: $18 (15ml)

4. DURI nail enamel in 112S Pie in the Sky Green: another gorgeous spring colour - mint green. I can't wait to combine these two nail colours and create some really pretty designs! RRP: $18 (15ml)

5. FaB Tassel necklace: This is a gorgeous, long statement necklace in gold and pink. RRP: $19.95

6. FaB Mint green watch (Geneva watches): I absolutely love this watch. It's a beautiful mint green colour with rose gold hardware. So pretty!! RRP: $29.95

Overall all I am so impressed with this box and have already subscribed to continue receiving them! The items are all gorgeous and perfect for spring and it is definitely worth the $35!!! Amazing value!
I would definitely recommend this fashion and beauty box!

Until next time :) xx

It was my first time ordering from them and I have to say I am impressed.

The quality of the clothes is really nice. The clothes are inexpensive and fit really well.

I would recommend going a size smaller if your in between sizes as they do run a little big, which is actually a nice change :)

These are the things I got.

Summer makeup routine | FOTD!!

FOTD + Summer foundation routine!!

Lets all just pretend that giant zit on my head isn't there. No amount of concealer in the world could cover that up haha!
So It's starting to get really hot in Melbourne now and I have developed a new makeup routine which comprises a much lighter feeling foundation that doesn't leave you feeling like your melting!

Step 1.
I've said in previous posts that I'm not the biggest fan of BB creams. I don't feel like they give me the coverage I want. However, I really don't like wearing foundation in summer because it gets so hot and I always feel like it's melting off. LOL. So what I have been doing lately is starting with the Rimmel BB cream in light and then using Revlon colour stay mineral foundation in light over the top. This takes away some of the dewiness of the BB cream and gives a little extra coverage. Because it is a powder foundation it doesn't feel heavy or think on the face, which is what I look for in my summer makeup.

Step 2.
For concealer I use the Avon ideal shade concealer stick in Neutral. I just put that over any spots or redness.

Step 3.
Then I begin on my eyes. I use the Garnier roll on anti-dark circles, which really brightens up the under eye area and hides any dark circles or bags etc.
For an eyeshadow base I use Essence I  stage eyeshadow base, all over the eyelid, right up to the eyebrow. This gives you more even eyeshadow coverage and helps to make the eyeshadow last longer on the lid.

Step 4.
Today I decided to use the Designer Brands Diva Kit eyeshadow palette. I used colour 1 on the top part of my eye, under the eyebrow. For the crease I used colour 4 and for the rest of the eyelid, colour 2.
I then use the Savvy by Designer Brands eyebrow pencil in Blonde to fill in and shape my eyebrows.
For eyeliner I use the Maybelline Master liner in BK-1. Just a thin line on the lid and a thin line on the outside third of the lower lash line.
For mascara I used the Maybelline XXL pro Curl.

Step 5.
Today I've gone with a nice bright blush. I've used Maybelline expert wear blush in 95 potpourri. I can never seem to get my blush to blend nicely so I use the Covergirl Clean pressed powder in 105 ivory to soften the edges and highlight my cheekbones.

Step 6.
Finally for the lips. Today I decided to be a little adventurous and go for a bold red lip. Usually I would choose pink but I really don't wear red lipstick enough so I thought I would mix it up a bit.
I used Mirenesse Lip cocktail in French Kiss.
This is a very deep red so to brighten it up a bit for summer I added a small amount of Essence stay with me long lasting lipgloss in 03 candy bar.

My brush set is by Montana Bliss, I bought it at a market almost two years ago.

So that is my face of the day and my summer foundation routine, I hope you found this helpful.

Let me know in the comments what your number one makeup tip for summer is!

Until next time :) xx

StyleTread Epic SALE Haul!!!

Styletread is having a massive sale. And when I say massive, I mean MASSIVE, possibly the best sale they have ever had!!!

For anyone not from Australia style tread is a website that sells a huge variety of shoes, bags and accessories for men, women and children.

I absolutely love this website but I only really buy when they have a sale on because otherwise items are full price so you might as well buy them in store so you don't have to wait for postage.

What is really great about this website is that you can buy shoes in a few different sizes or styles, try them on at home and then send the ones you don't want back for a full refund.

On non sale items postage and return postage is free.

On sale items there is a $6.95 flat shipping rate, which is still amazingly good!!

So heres what I bought at the sale!!

1. BearPaw black Ugg boots - $25.90
I haven't owned Ugg boots since I was about 14 years old but since I am going to the UK and Europe in January and that involves a 36 hour flight, as well as my first experience of EPICALLY cold weather, I thought I would invest in a pair.
These are great, they seem really sturdy and well made, they are fluffy on the inside and incredibly warm!

2. Indy C cream square bangle - $4.90
I just thought this bangle was really cute and it is really different from anything I own. It's thick, and a really pretty cream, marble patterned Resin and every side has little gold and jewelled details. It's really pretty, modern and sophisticated and it was less that $5.00!!! AMAZING!

3. Indy C Leo hold all slouchy  handbag - $15.90
This is by far my fourite purchase in a long time. This bag is amazing. It's a lovely caramel brown colour with bronze/gold hardware and leopard print detailing. It's absolutely huge, meaning you can fit like your whole life in there and it has a long should or cross body strap as well as a smaller strap to carry it in your hand. This was also a purchase for my up coming Europe trip and I think it will be absolutely perfect. Another plus is that it was originally around $80.00 and I only paid $15.90!! Such a great bargain and an amazing bag!!

If you want to check out Styletread's amazing up to 80% off sale it is still on at the moment if you click here, but be quick because it has been on for a little while now so I don't now how much longer it will last. They have some seriously amazing deals!

What has been your favourite online sale recently?

Until next time :) xx

November Bellabox: Soiree Season Staples!!

So it is that time again! My Bellabox has arrived!! Well it actually arrived a while ago but I have been so busy I didn't even open it until a couple of days ago.

Just a quick update on these boxes, I have now unsubscribed to Lust Have It. It just wasn't as good as Bellabox and really didn't seem worth the money anymore. So I am now only subscribed to Bellabox and as usual, the November box does not disappoint!!

This months theme was Soiree Season Staples. That basically means all the essentials to get you through summer and the holiday season!

What's in the Box??

1. Bioderma Crealine H2O Cleansing water Sample 20ml
I received a sample of this in a previous beauty box and have used it a couple of times. I have heard a lot of negative things about it but I actually really liked it. It gets off all the makeup and because it is water based it doesn't leave your skin dry or tight.
RRP: 250ml $39.95

2. 4me nail polish remover pads FULL SIZE 30 pads
These are a two-in-one nail product, they remove nail polish while conditioning nails and cuticles. They are acetone and alcohol free so they won't dry out or damage your nails.
RRP: $3.49

3. Swisse Hand Cream with Vitamin F and Pomegranate Sample 30ml
I didn't even know Swisse made hand creams but alas, I now own one. haha. If you haven't heard of Swisse before they are a vitamin supplement company. This hand cream is lovely. Is moisturises without leaving a residue on your hands and it smells of citrus which is lovely.
RRP: 100ml $14.95

4. Palmolive Luscious Mango Body Butter Wash Sample 50ml
I have reviewed the Strawberry smoother version of this body wash in a previous post and I am absolutely in love with it! I am really excited to try  the mayo version, it smells lovely and fruity!
RRP: 400ml $6.49

5. Bloom Glitter Liquid Eyeliner in Star Gazer FULL SIZE
I received a different colour of this eyeliner in a previous box and used it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It goes on smoothly and looks amazing over black eyeliner. I got so many compliments on it so I am really excited to have another colour. This will be great for all those Christmas parties etc. coming up!.
RRP: $14.95

6. John Plunkett Essentials Multi-vitamin Moisturiser FULL SIZE
Another moisturiser packed with vitamins, which is exactly what you need after spending a few hours in that hot Aussie sun! It is for normal and sensitive skin and contains vitamins A, B3, B5, C and E.
RRP: $9.95

7. Skinmiso Pore Beauty Nose Pack Sample 1 sheet
This is a Korean product which is designed to remove blackheads, contract pores and control oil over the nose. I'm very keen to try this as I always have trouble with the skin on my nose over summer because it gets very oily causing it to break out.
RRP: 10 sheets $21.99

More Info:
Bellabox is a monthly subscription box which contains a variety of beauty rested items. The cost is $15 per month.

This month Bellabox is giving away a free moustache necklace with every purchase from their online store.

Nail Polish Haul Australia!!!!

So I've been online shopping again! (Surprise!! haha) This time I bought a few nail polishes from the website mbeautylounge.com. It's an America website that has a huge variety of nail polish brands, many of which are very difficult, if not impossible to find in Australia, at seriously discounted prices!

It's a great website, the only downsides are that shipping can be quite expensive and it also takes several weeks because nail polishes cannot be sent via airmail because they are flammable. But it is totally worth it for the massive savings and incredible range!

So here's what I bought:

China Glaze 866 Four Leaf Clover
This is a gorgeous green colour, perfect for the holiday season!
Price: $4.85

China Glaze 955 Sunset Sail
A lovely peachy nude colour, great for a more sophisticated summer look.
Price: $4.99

Essie 783 Play Date
A lovely light purple.
Price: $7.10

Zoya ZP625 Zuza
A gorgeous green with gold and silver sparkles through it, once again this will be an amazing colour for the holiday season!
Price: $6.60

Zoya ZP555 Keiko
A lovely deep purple which will be great for the cooler months.
Price: $6.40

Shipping cost: $18.98

I definitely recommend you head over to the website and check it out, they have a massive range of international nail polish brands really cheap, and new collections are added all the time!!

Where do you like to buy nail polish??

Until next time :) xxx
